Identification of Two Species of Dalbergiaby Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

Abstract: Identifications were made on wood of Dalbergia retusa and D. bariensis by FTIR. Comparisons on spectra resulted that essential structureof tested two species wood was similar, but peak shape, position and relative absorption intensity of lignin of them had difference. The FTIR spectraof the two woods illustrated that characteristic peak of O-H and C-H was respectively at 3 408, 2 901 cm-1 and 3 401, 2 883 cm-1, but with a littleoffset. Wood of D. bariensis had double peaks at 1 232 and 1 267 cm-1, while that of D. retusa had only one peak at 1 201 cm-1. At 1 616-1 647cm-1,and near 1 082 cm-1, there were significant differences in the shape of the peaks of the two woods. Taking the 1 510 cm-1 as internal standardpeak, the relative adsorption intensity of the two tested woods has obvious difference. The experiment demonstrated that FTIR could be used to theidentification of D. retusa and D. bariensis wood.
