Abstract: British Columbia, Canada has a long history of constructing the provincial protected areas, and enjoys a complete legal system for provincial protected areas protection. It has an efficient management system, a comprehensive monitoring and evaluating regime, as well as a sound planning system, all of which is guaranteed by adequate finance. Its construction experience of protected areas system may promote the construction and improvement of provincial protected areas in China, by formulating regulations on the provincial protected areas and related laws and regulations, improving the government-led and multi-party cooperative provincial protected areas management mechanism, introducing public participation mechanism in the planning process, improving the monitoring and evaluating mechanism.
