Abstract: Species composition, age class structure and distribution characteristics of ancient trees and reserves was presented based on literature and field investigation in rural area of Yuhang district, Zhejiang province. Relationship was analyzed between ancient tree resources and local humanity, economy and location. The results showed there were 621 ancient trees, including 22 ones under first-class protection, 777 reserves, belonging to 45 species of 25 families. The number of ancient tree and resources had negative relation with age. Forestry and tourism development and distance to Hangzhou promoted the preservation of rural ancient trees, and affected the community composition of ancient tree resources. The comprehensive assessment of 6 villages demonstrated that it could better to establish rural ancient tree park. Strategies for better conservation of ancient trees were proposed such as building an ancient tree park system, exploring rural cultural history, implementing scientific and intelligent protection measures.
