Growth Regularity of Sequoia sempervirens in Zhejiang

  • Sample plots of 20m × 30m were established on April 2016 in 35-year Sequia sempervirens plantation in Xin’anjiang Forest Farm, Zhejiang province. Complete enumeration was carried out in the plots, and 3 sample trees per plot were selected as analytic wood for determination of tree height, DBH and volume. The results showed that the curve of tree height and DBH growth was rectilinear figure, and that of volume increment was "S". The total increment of tree height, DBH and volume of 35-year S. sempervirens was 23.00m, 30.6cm and 0.3430m3. Their average annual growth was 0.70 m, 0.93 cm and 0.010 4 m3. There was no cross between the current annual growth and the mean growth curve, indicating that the trees were still in the fast growing stage. Comparisons of mean DBH and height of the same age of S. sempervirens was made with that of Cunninghamia lanceolata, it demonstrated that of the former was better than that of the latter.
