Loss of rpl2 Intron in Lythraceae

  • Samples of 17 species of Lagerstroemia and 7 other species of Lythracee were collected, and with Oenothera albicaulis of Onagraceae as control. DNA was extracted by the kit method, and the target gene fragment of rpl2 was amplified by PCR. The results showed that the length of the target region of rpl2 was shorter than other species by PCR gel electrophoresis. The comparison of Sanger sequencing of the amplified fragments showed that rpl2 intron loss occurred in tested species except the control.
