Effect of Different Solvents on Extracts from Leaves of Eriobotrya japonica

  • In February and March 2019, fallen leaves were collected in Eriobotrya japonica orchard in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. Experimentswere conducted on extraction by Sowhlet extractor method with different solvents such as water, ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The resultsdemonstrated that the highest yield of mixed natural product was by water, topped to 22.1%. The highest extraction rate and content of polyphenolswas extracted by water and ethanol respectively, 9.5% and 0.509 mg/mg. The highest total carbohydrate rate and extract content was by water, 4.97 %and 0.225 mg/mg. The highest extraction rate of anthocyanin was 1.08 % in ethanol, and the highest extracted content was 0.113 mg/mg in ethylacetate. The highest extraction rate and content of total flavonoids was 3.04 % and 0.210 mg/mg in ethanol. Analysis on antioxidant capacity showedthat the best was ethanol extract, 0.446 μmol/mg.
