Techniques for Transplanting of Ancient and Rare Trees in Inundated Area of Huangnan Reservoir in Songyang

  • In 2017, Huangnan Reservoir Project in Songyang county, Zhejiang province was started, 41 ancient and rare trees would be inundated. Based on detailed investigations, plans of those trees demonstrated that 2 of them would be in situ protected by box dam, 23 of them could be transplanted and the left 16 ones needed to be cut. In February and April 2019 and 2020, transporting with root of 23 trees were implemented with techniques of ridge formation, root cutting, crown reduction, sapling docking, shading and moisture retention, post-planting management. Quantitative analysis on the effect and survival rate of transplantation showed that the survival rate of 23 transplanted trees was 86.96%.
