Flowering Properties and Pollen Viability of Carpinus tientaiensis

  • Observations were made on flowering season and flower morphology, and determination was carried out on pollen viability, stigma receptivity of Carpinus tientaiensis in 2014 in Tiantai, Zhejiang province. The results showed that staminate flowers had earlier flowering stage than pistillate ones, and they had only 15 days overlaps. High air humidity and rainy days may have negative influence on pollination. Pollen germination rate at initial flowering stage was the highest, topped to 10.83%, resulting the best time for pollen collection. Culture with 0.6% of agar+0.005% or 0.01% of boric acid+1% of sucrose had the best result for pollen germination. Stigma got to the optimal receptivity one day after flowering, and lasted for 5 days.
